Daisy Ministry

-- Loving those who can't remember --

Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a progressive brain disorder that gradually destroys a person's memory and ability to learn, reason, make judgments, communicate and carry out daily activities. There are as many as 4.5 million Americans who suffer from Alzheimer's disease. More than 7 out of 10 people with AD live at home and rely on family and friends to provide almost 75 percent of their care. This is difficult to avoid due to the average cost of nursing home care costs $42,000 to $70,000 per year.

The Daisy Ministry's mission is to provide loving care to people with loss of memory and to support their families and caregivers. Caring for an AD person is mentally and physically exhausting, and I know that the Daisy Ministry can help make a difference.

The Daisy Ministry offers in-home visits, grocery shopping, light cleaning and general house straightening, rides to doctors' appointments and nursing home visits. If you have someone you know that is suffering from this terrible disease, or maybe you would just like more information on AD, I would love to speak with you.

On Sunday, November 6 th there will be a table set up in the Family Life Center that will provide information on AD. You will find information on assisted living, a list of doctors that specialize in AD, books on AD and information from the Alzheimer's Association Southern Piedmont Chapter.

God wants us to use our abilities to bless others around us. Is God leading you? I have prayed for God to help me find my purpose in life and I feel this is what he has led me to do. If you know someone who could use the help, or would like to volunteer, please contact me at (704) 400-7025 or e-mail me.

In Christ,
Carol Pope
