Why are we needed?

    • More than 7 out of 10 people with Alzheimer's disease live at home
    • Family and friends provide almost 75 percent of their care
    • The remainder is “paid” care costing an average of $12,500 per year
    • Families pay almost all of that out of their pocket
    • Half of all nursing home residents have Alzheimer's disease or a related disorder
    • The average cost for nursing home care is $42,000 per year but can exceed $70,000 per year in some areas of the country
    • The average lifetime cost of care for an individual with Alzheimer's is $174,00

These figures do not include other heath problems and other care that may be needed; it is also for one person that in most cases lives on a fixed income

Scientists think that as many as 4.5 million Americans suffer from AD. The disease usually begins after age 60. The Baby Boomer age is coming close to retirement and closer to the age to developing some form of AD. Which means more care will be needed than ever before.

Families and Friends provide almost 75 percent of their care, but what happens to the ones without families, without friends to care for them. Then they fall in the hands of our Government. That is where I would like our Ministry to step in. To help those that does not have the families or the $12,500 per year to pay for help. Caring for an AD person is mentally exhausting and physically exhausting and I know we can make a difference.
